The All Region DVD Player

If you have ever bought a DVD and found that your player would not read it, you have just run into a small limitation of this form of media playback. The DVD was developed to replace tapes that break and lose quality, but they were developed differently in different areas of the world. There were good and bad reasons for this, but in the most basic sense, it makes ordering movies from other areas of the world a problem. Some think that this was done to control rights and licenses, but whatever the case, there is a way around this problem, and that is the all region DVD player.

If you live in the US, any DVD that you buy from the US will play on your DVD player. However, if you go to buy one from some place like Australia, you may be told that you can not buy it because it is from a different region. Some companies have rights to overseas shows in the US, which means they want you to buy from them, not the source. This can be quite frustrating for the viewer that just wants to watch something they find interesting. If you have an all region DVD player, this is no longer a worry for you, though you may still have problems buying that special DVD.

In most cases, you can find sources for those DVDs if you really want them. Before you do that, you can look at your personal DVD player to see if you already have an all region DVD player. Some come in one region, but have the ability to change to a different region. Some laptops have DVD software that allows you to change regions, but may only let you do it so many times. The reasons for this are not clear, but you can check your machine to see if you have that option.

You can find an all region DVD player on the Internet, and in some cases, you can find them in stores. Most stores won't stock them because there is not a huge audience for them and they don't have huge sales in store. They do better online because they are more of a specialty item. If you want one, go to auction sites like eBay or see if you can find any online retailers that carry them and have them shipped to your home or to their nearest retail outlet so that you can pick it up.

An alternative to the all region DVD player would be to get a player in a region that you want. If you have a lot of interest in Australian television and movies, you can always order a player that plays that region. You will then have two DVD players instead of one in your home. That is a great way to get around things if you can't find a player that plays all regions in your price range. You can also see if you can find the shows you want in your own region. This does not happen a lot, but it does happen. That will certainly making viewing your favorites a while lot easier.
