Although most people would say I have a pretty good job with lots of potential for advancement, I'm getting tired of it. I do the same thing day after day, have to kowtow to rude customers, must constantly deal with obnoxious coworkers, and am generally getting tired of the whole routine. I'm ready for a change, and want to do something where I can be my own boss and set my own hours. I've been interested in massaging ever since I took a weekend class at the local community college, so I think it would be fun to enroll in massage therapy school for more extensive training.

I've already started looking into different massage therapy schools in my area. Most of the institutions offer the same types of courses, which include things like Western and Eastern massaging techniques, Anatomy & Physiology, Pathology, Kinesiology & Myology, and more. I honestly had no idea that people had to learn this much stuff in massage therapy school, but I think it's great! At least I know I'll be getting my money's worth and will emerge from these courses with a thorough understanding of how the body works and how to relieve and sooth muscular pain.

Since these massage therapy schools I've researched have the same curriculum, I'll base my final decision on other factors. Price is a big one, as I've noticed quite a discrepancy in tuition fees between the institutions. Career assistance is another. I want a massage therapy school that will help get me started on a rewarding career as soon as I graduate, whether it be through job placement or advice for setting up my own business. I'll be looking for a place with an active alumni network with helpful, experienced people I can turn to once I'm ready to branch off on my own.

I've also seen some websites for online massage therapy schools, which could be a more convenient option for some people. But for me personally, I'm going to stick to actual campus courses because I don't think this is something I could learn adequately from a video, DVD, or written instructions. That's just not my learning style.

As part of my research, I took a quick peek at the job outlook for masseuses and masseurs, and was encouraged by what I saw. There appears to be tremendous earnings and growth potential in the field, especially for freelancers, so I definitely think that going to massage therapy school is a sound move.
